More Details

Vigil Service: When requested, Vigil can be provided for those at their dying time wherever the client is. Four hour shifts 10:00 pm – 2:00 am and 2:00 am – 6:00 am (this would be usually offered during the last 72 hours). We hope this allows the family some respite and peace of mind that their loved one is not alone. It also can be to companion the family during their personal vigil.

Sundowners Program: Trained volunteers are available Monday through Friday from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital. These volunteers can stay with a client while their family goes for dinner or has a break. They are available to answer questions, offer Hospice information, advocate for the client and companion the family.

Client and Family Companion Visits: Our trained volunteers spend time with clients wherever the client is – at home, in hospital, in extended care or in residential care. Each volunteer has signed a confidentiality form and has had a criminal record check. Our dedicated team of volunteers have committed to four hours of service each week. They are available to their clients for regular visits. They are not rushed and have time just to be with them or their families to support and listen to their concerns with a non-judgmental attitude.

A Hospice volunteer will companion you and your family during the dying time of your life journey. We are available to you from the time of diagnosis until the end. They can help you navigate the system and share resource information that is available to you. Their compassionate listening skills are a calming gift for you and your family during what is often a very stressful and confusing time.
