West Island Palliative Care Residence Achieves Canadian Compassionate Company (CCC) designation

February 9, 2018 (Ottawa, Ontario).  The Champions Council of the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association (CHPCA) has announced that The West Island Palliative Care Residence (WIPCR) has been designated a Canadian Compassionate Company (CCC). The coveted CCC designation is awarded by the Champions Council of the CHPCA, to Canadian employers who support employees that are caring for a seriously ill loved one.

Dealing with a life limiting illness is extremely challenging even in the best of times, both for the person that is afflicted, and for their loved ones who have been suddenly tasked with the awesome responsibility of being a caregiver. It is, therefore, a duty for both individuals and businesses to support our fellow citizens during life’s most difficult moments. Accordingly, the CHPCA’s Champions Council is very pleased that The West Island Palliative Care Residence has fully fulfilled the criteria to become a Canadian Compassionate Company.

Teresa Dellar, Executive Director of The West Island Palliative Care Residence stated that “we are very happy to have become designated a Canadian Compassionate Company. The CHPCA’s CCC designation is an important acknowledgment. WIPCR recognizes that providing care for patients also means supporting their families and caregivers facing the difficult task of balancing their employment with their caregiver duties. The cornerstone of our commitment to our employees is WIPCR’s Compassionate Leave policy, a comprehensive program, with a robust guarantee that makes every effort to safeguard the employment of employees during the caregiver process.  The CHPCA’s CCC designation is an important distinction that recognizes WIPCR as a compassionate employer in both word and deed”.

Russell Williams, Chair of CHPCA’s Champion’s Council stated that, “I am delighted that The West Island Palliative Care Residence has fulfilled all the criteria to be designated a Canadian Compassionate Company. The CHPCA’s CCC designation award, distinguishes employers that continue to support their employees dealing with the difficult task of providing care for a loved one facing a terminal illness.  Ultimately, it is companies such as The West Island Palliative Care Residence that rise to the occasion, so that our citizens and communities do not have to deal with the burden and loneliness of caregiving alone. The CHPCA’s Champions Council applauds WIPCR’s strong corporate leadership in this regard and challenges other Canadian businesses to match their standards.  ”

The West Island Palliative Care Residence joins several other companies that have recently achieved this important distinction, demonstrating strong leadership in human resource policy among their corporate Canadian peers.
