Submit an Article

CHPCA accepts guest article submissions from external authors for publication on The Palliative Approach. Articles will be published in the original language they are submitted in. If you want your submission to be posted in both English and French, please provide us with the translated version.

Submitted articles may be edited for clarity and consistency by the CHPCA editorial team, or by external reviewers as needed for expertise or capacity. The CHPCA editorial team may elect to translate a guest article on a case-by-case basis.

Guest articles should:

  • Either be original content not published elsewhere OR, published elsewhere under a Creative Commons license (or with equivalent permissions) allowing reproduction of the content.
  • Have positive intent
  • Use plain-language and the active voice wherever possible
  • Avoid being overly self-promotional (except for articles or news releases submitted as Sector News to announce or share an initiative)
  • Always appropriately cite, quote, and provide attribution to external sources referenced in the article.

Content Requirements:

  • Length: 500 – 1500 words
  • File: Word document
  • All sources and reference material should be hyperlinked in the text.
    For sources not available online, include endnotes using the APA citation style.
  • Photos: Every article features at least one image. You can upload one or multiple images (File type: JPG, PNG, SVG) with your submission for us to include. Please ensure that you have any required consent or permission for CHPCA to share the photo on its platforms.
    • Important note: Photos or images included in the Word document containing the article will not be used. Photos or images must be uploaded individually and separately in the submission form.
  • Author information: Include the name, position, and relevant organization of every author.
  • Knowledge Translation (Science communication translating academic or scholarly research findings for non-academic audiences, such as practitioners or the public.)
  • Case Studies
  • Sector News, Current Events, News Releases
  • Opinions or Editorial-style Articles
  • Personal or Professional Stories / Experiences
  • Interviews
  • Thought-Leadership
  • Frequently Asked Questions / Question and Answer
  • Book Excerpts or Reviews
  • Creative Expression (poetry, etc.)

Articles must be tangibly related to hospice palliative care, or be directly applicable to those who work, volunteer, or support hospice palliative care.
