Growing up in the Maritimes, I grew up surrounded by a family and community brimming with extraordinary storytellers. I listened intently to tales of colossal fish, epic love, and grand adventures. Yet, above all others, it was the stories of people that left a lasting mark on me. These stories taught me invaluable lessons, including never letting the details get in the way of a good joke. Most importantly though, I learned a fundamental truth: our stories are potent instruments for building connections, fostering understanding, and weaving the fabric of community.
Conversations about death, dying, grief and loss are overwhelming – but the Saint Elizabeth Foundation was pleased to offer a community-based grief support to hospices across the country in recognition and celebration of National Palliative Care Week this past May.
There is a remarkable difference in the quality of care in a nursing home and a palliative care centre. Naturally, fewer residents and specialized end-of-life care by professionals are key factors.
On October 13th, 2022, CHPCA in partnership with the Canadian Network of Palliative Care for Children led the “Make Every Day Count” campaign in honour of National Children’s Hospice Palliative Care Day 2022.

Today the Pan-Canadian Palliative Care Research Collaborative announced the receipt of $2.5 million from Health Canada to support a network of researchers, clinicians, and community in advancing palliative care for patients and caregivers.
