The City of Waterloo achieves Canadian Compassionate Company (CCC) designation

For Immediate Release

May 7, 2019 (Ottawa, Ontario) The Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association (CHPCA)’s Champions Council is pleased to announce the City of Waterloo has been designated a Canadian Compassionate Company (CCC). The City of Waterloo has earned this designation because of their commitment to support employees that are caring for ill or injured loved ones.

The CCC designation is awarded to Canadian employers who support their employees that have taken on the vital role of caring for seriously ill/injured loved ones. By supporting their employees who have taken on this difficult task, the employer plays a significant and positive role in the caregiving process. Accordingly, the CHPCA’s Champion’s Council is cheerful that the City of Waterloo meets the required criteria to become a part of the Canadian Compassionate Companies.

“I am pleased to announce a Canadian Compassionate Companies designation for the City of Waterloo, Ontario,” said Russell Williams, Senior Vice President, Mission, Diabetes Canada and longtime member and Chair of CHPCA’s Champion’s Council. “Employers have an important role to support their employees who have taken on this vital role for a loved one. The commitment shown by the City of Waterloo to their staff in what could be their most challenging hours is admirable. We welcome the City of Waterloo to the CCC designate.

“Balancing work and family life, has always been a cornerstone of our values as an employer,” says City of Waterloo Chief Administrative Officer, Tim Anderson. “We recognize the difficult but important role our employees fill as family caregivers during times of serious illness. Our compassionate care policy is intended to support staff should they require time off in order to care for a loved one.”

The City of Waterloo has joined many other companies that have already achieved this important designation by their leadership in human resource policy among their corporate Canadian peers.

Formed in 2010, the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association’s (CHPCA) Champion’s Council is comprised of key Canadian leaders who have offered to advance the profile of hospice palliative care across the country.
