Saint Elizabeth Health Care Achieves Canadian Compassionate Company (CCC) Designation

December 5, 2017 (Ottawa, Ontario) The Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association (CHPCA)’s Champion’s Council is pleased to announce that Saint Elizabeth Health Care (SEHC) has been designated a Canadian Compassionate Company (CCC). The CCC designation is awarded by the Champions Council of the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association, to Canadian employers who support employees that are caring for a seriously ill loved one.

The difficult journey of a caregiver is often marked by great sacrifices; personal, professional and economic. By supporting employees throughout the care giving process, companies such as Saint Elizabeth Health Care help to lessen the burden and loneliness of caregiving. Accordingly, the CHPCA’s Champion’s Council is proud to announce that designate Saint Elizabeth Health Care has fully fulfilled the criteria to become a Canadian Compassionate Company.

“It’s a wonderful honour to be recognized in this space,” said Saint Elizabeth President and CEO Shirlee Sharkey. “There’s a growing population of family caregivers – nearly 1 in 3 Canadians – and they need support.” Saint Elizabeth has a comprehensive Compassionate Care Leave policy, which includes a Return to Work guarantee to help safeguard employment during the caregiver process. “We have also created an innovative Caregivers in the Workplace platform that provides employee caregivers with the understanding, resources and advice they need, while supporting staff wellbeing and productivity,” says Sharkey. “As we approach our 110-year anniversary, we are proud to be caring for people and families in ways that reflect society’s changing needs.”

Russell Williams, Chair of CHPCA’s Champion’s Council stated that, “I am pleased to award the CHPCA’s Compassionate Companies designation to Saint Elizabeth Health Care. The CHPCA’s CCC designation not only recognizes the vital role that companies play in the health and welfare of their employees, it also distinguishes employers that continue to support employees throughout the greatest of life’s challenges – that of caregiver. The CHPCA’s Champion’s Council believes that the type of corporate leadership demonstrated by Saint Elizabeth Health Care must not only be recognized, but emulated.”
