As a Manager, Vancouver Community Hospice Palliative Care with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Work closely with the Medical Leader, Vancouver Home Hospice Palliative Care Service, to co-manage the effective and efficient delivery of services provided by the Vancouver Home Hospice Palliative Care Service Team.
  • Oversee the residential hospice contracts as well as a centralized palliative access service.
  • Provide leadership and direction for operations management, planning, implementation and evaluation of the programs and activities related to the utilization, risk management and continuous quality improvement of the programs.
  • Identify opportunities and assume a leadership role in collaboration with other palliative care leaders in palliative program enhancement and development at a local and health service delivery area level.
  • Play a critical role in addressing the ongoing issues/needs of clients and their families ensuring appropriate and accessible palliative and hospice services are in place.
  • Lead an interdisciplinary team and work as a team player with colleagues and co-workers and in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve excellence in client, family and community centred care, education and research.
  • Create an effective workforce plan to meet operational demands and environmental resource constraints while increasing the capacity of the community in meeting palliative care needs.
  • Identify services, service gaps, clinical and system processes to improve and or provide maximum program efficiencies.
  • Lead program enhancement/development across the continuum of palliative care in collaboration with key agencies and community groups.
  • Encourage partnerships and systems that facilitate optimal population health service delivery, reduce or eliminate health service inequities and promote healthy communities.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Education & Experience

  • Masters Degree in a relevant discipline
  • Five (5) to seven (7) year’s recent, related progressive leadership experience that includes experience in a position responsible for the provision of hospice and/or palliative care and in introducing and leading organizational change or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge & Abilities :

  • Exhibits comprehensive knowledge and skillful application of population health principles.
  • Exhibits comprehensive knowledge and skillful application of relevant departmental policies, provincial and municipal legislative requirements and other programs and processes related to community health.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to develop, manage and evaluate services considering client needs, service delivery interrelationships and service potential within a complex environment.
  • Understands available resources for service and keeps quality in the forefront of all resource utilization decisions.
  • Facilitates, collaborates and negotiates for effective resolution of human resource issues.
  • Fosters collaborative working relationships and supports the ongoing development of staff.
  • Utilizes skill and knowledge in the application of appropriate software programs.
