National Hospice Palliative Care Week 2017

Hospice Palliative Care is about living well. Right to the end.

National Hospice Palliative Care Week runs from May 7-13, 2017. The Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association wants Canadians to know that “Hospice Palliative Care is about living well. Right to the end.” For National Hospice Palliative Care Week 2017, CHPCA is calling on Canadians to conquer their fear and commit to two actions:

  1. Learn about Hospice Palliative Care and Advance Care Planning – what they mean, and what you think you may want (or know you won’t want) when the time comes; and
  2. Make a “bucket list”: Your top 5 things to do before you die, and share it on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook using #Top5WhileImAlive or #vivrebienjusqualafin.

“We are often afraid to talk about end-of-life care issues because it’s about the unknown, but hospice palliative care is about living your life – and living it well ‐ right to the end,” said CHPCA’s Executive Director Sharon Baxter. “You can’t know how or when that will be, but you can get informed about what options may be available to you and share your wishes with your family and community. Creating an advance care plan can help you think about and focus on doing what’s important to you so you can live well. Right to the end.”

For this year’s campaign, the CHPCA has created downloadable posters and a “bucket list selfie” template for people to create and share their bucket lists on social media. Doing so will help you think about what’s important to you and help raise awareness about end-of-life care issues and advance care planning among all Canadians. Hospice Palliative Care and Advance Care Planning: get informed about what your options are so you can focus on what’s important in your life.

National Hospice Palliative Care Week is coordinated by the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association. Funding for National Hospice Palliative Care Week is provided by GlaxoSmithKline, Purdue, CBI Health Care and Innovative Medicines Canada. The CHPCA operates in close partnership with other national organizations and continues to work to ensure that all Canadians, regardless of where they may live, have equal access to quality hospice palliative care services for themselves and their family.
