More Details

The Sunshine Coast has two hospice rooms and a family room at Shorncliffe Intermediate Care Facility.  These rooms provide palliative patients and their families with a place to stay at the end of life when care at home becomes too challenging.

This provides a different experience than a room in a standard hospital might. Volunteers can visit to provide companionship as needed, and nursing staff provide medical care.

Our rooms are quiet, with a shared family room between them, and they open out onto a beautiful, tranquil perennial garden tended by Hospice volunteers.  We encourage residents and families to bring keepsakes and belongings so their space can be as comfortable and familiar as possible.

We do not provide clinical or personal care services. Rather, we provide social/emotional support as well as some financial support for the 2 residential hospice suites owned and operated by the local health authority. Our team consists of a small staff and approximately 60 trained volunteers who provide the bulk of the direct client support. This is offered through a range of programs including a visiting, bedside vigils, support for Threshold Choir, a palliative day program, grief groups and 1-1 bereavement support, support for dying clients and their families, advance care planning support, a resource library and a variety of public education and outreach programs. We are a strong voice advocating for hospice services in our community and are constantly adapting our services to meet community need.

Placement in Hospice is coordinated through the Palliative Care Team at Sechelt Hospital.  Contact us at Hospice for more information.
