Northumberland Hills Hospital’s Speechley Palliative Care Unit is designed to accommodate patients and their families* when disease is not responsive to curative treatment. Palliative care at NHH is guided by a philosophy that affirms life as precious, in all phases of the life cycle. Palliative care neither hastens nor postpones death – it supports patients and their families each step through the journey.

The Unit is staffed by registered nurses who are committed to pain and symptom management and end-of-life care. Access to outdoor gardens and an open-air courtyard provide patients and visitors with both mental and physical relief. An overnight room for families, a private kitchen and family lounge offer comfort and convenience for palliative care patients’ loved ones.

*On the Palliative Care Unit, family is whoever the patient says it is.
