The Complex Care program is a time-limited program for patients 18 years of age and older designed for complex care patients who require daily skilled assessments and additional hospital care.

The goal of the admission is to enhance the health, functioning and quality of life of the patient, and support the patient to meet specific goals to transition back into the community. Niagara Health has 169 complex care beds across four sites.  Patient types or “streams” are medically complex, restorative, ventilator dependent, bariatric and end-of-life.

All patients and families are encouraged to be active members of the health care team. The team includes physicians, nursing, social work, case management, a clinical pharmacist and clinical dietitian as well as programs for long-term ventilator care, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy, therapeutic recreation, spiritual/religious and palliative care.
