Provides support services for seniors and individuals with specific needs that require assistance to help them remain in their own homes for as long as possible. 

Coordinates services and support of volunteers who offer companionship and support to individuals and families with a chronic or life-limiting illness:

  • Recruits and screens volunteers willing to donate time with palliative care patients
  • Matches volunteers with clients on a one-on-one basis
  • Provides a 30-hour training course for volunteers
  • Promotes services and educates member communities about the benefits of Palliative Care volunteers
  • Accepts donations and issues charitable donation receipts; must specify which community the donation is directed to

Friendly visiting volunteer services provided include:

  • Respite care for caregivers
  • Assistance with shopping, making phone calls, writing letters, getting to appointments, and community outings
  • Bedside support
  • Support in home, hospital, or long term care facility
